A touching photo of an elderly Chinese couple, married for nearly 70 years, holding hands in an intensive care unit has captured hearts around the world.
According to New China, the photo was taken and shared by Wang Yanfang, the head nurse at Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province, eastern China. Feng Ming, 92, had been admitted to the ICU for heart failure, and his condition worsened as multiple organs began to fail, leading to a lung infection. He was unable to speak and was placed on life support.

Knowing that his life was nearing its end, Feng’s family decided to stop treatment and take him home. However, before leaving, Feng had one final request—to see his wife, Zhang Ping, with whom he had spent 66 years of marriage. Zhang, 95, was also in the hospital receiving treatment for a broken thigh bone on a different floor.
Wang, the head nurse, arranged for Zhang to be brought to the ICU ahead of visiting hours, recognizing the urgency of the situation. She was moved from the 14th floor to the ICU on a stretcher, allowing the couple to share a final moment together. Zhang held Feng’s hand and spoke to him in their hometown dialect, assuring him, "You don’t have to worry about me. I promise I can take care of myself".

Moved by her words, Feng began to cry. A few hours later, he passed away peacefully at home. Wang expressed her relief at granting the couple this special moment, saying, “We allowed them to meet, and I’m so glad we made that decision.”
This emotional story is a poignant reminder of the enduring power of love, even in life’s most difficult moments.
