Known for being outspoken on social and personal issues, Eilish, 22, has used her platform to address body shaming and challenge unrealistic beauty standards. Early in her career, she often wore loose-fitting clothing to avoid scrutiny over her body, a topic she's discussed in her music and public appearances.

In a candid conversation with Elle, the Grammy-winning artist recalled losing over 100,000 Instagram followers due to one specific photo.

"It was just because of the boobs," Eilish explained, referring to a post from the summer of 2021. The post featured selfies of her wearing a Miaou tomato-print corset with a lace bra visible underneath.

The backlash was swift, with some accusing her of being "disingenuous" and claiming the music industry had changed her.

Eilish reflected on the incident, saying, "People hold on to these memories and have an attachment. But it’s very dehumanizing."

She shared that she lost followers simply because of her appearance, stating, "I lost 100,000 followers, just because of the boobs. People are scared of big boobs."

Eilish also spoke about the criticism she faces when she opts for more fitted clothing, recalling a recent experience where she wore a tank top. "It wasn’t even provocative," she said. "But I know people are going to say, 'Holy f***, she’s dressing sexy and trying to make a statement.' And I’m like, 'No, I’m not. It’s 500 degrees, and I just want to wear a tank top.'"

Over the years, Eilish has transitioned away from her signature baggy style, notably debuting a new look on the cover of British Vogue. That was the first time she shared photos of herself in a corset on Instagram, further igniting conversation around her image.

Despite the criticism, Eilish continues to use her platform to advocate for body positivity.

In 2020, she encouraged people to embrace "real bodies" after being photographed in more form-fitting clothing. In a 2019 Calvin Klein ad, she explained that her baggy clothing was a way to avoid judgment, saying, "Nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what's underneath."

While the loss of 100,000 followers was notable, it’s only a small fraction of her fanbase. Eilish’s Instagram still boasts over 119 million followers, showing her influence remains as strong as ever.
