Music icon Sir Elton John has disclosed that he is experiencing "limited vision" in one eye due to a severe eye infection.
The 77-year-old singer shared an update on Instagram, informing fans that while he is gradually recovering, the process has been slow.
"Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye," he explained. "I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before my sight returns to the affected eye."
Elton, known for hits like "Rocket Man," expressed gratitude to the medical professionals and his family for their support. "I'm so thankful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses, and my family, who have taken such great care of me," he added.
After his announcement, fans and fellow celebrities flooded his post with messages of support and well-wishes. One fan wrote, "Prayers for healing, Sir Elton. ❤️🩹❤️🩹," while another commented, "Praying for healing for your eye🙏." Many others shared similar sentiments, offering love and encouragement.
Fashion designer Donatella Versace also sent her support, saying: "Sending you so much love, Elton! Feel better soon. Love you." Tennis legend Billie Jean King added: “Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend.”
This isn't the first health challenge for Sir Elton.
In 2017, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and chose surgery over chemotherapy to prevent the disease's spread. Despite his demanding schedule of over 120 shows a year, he later revealed that this experience left him "24 hours from death" and prompted him to reconsider his life priorities.
In his 2019 memoir, Me, Elton shared: “Effectively, my kids made the decision for me. I didn’t want cancer hanging over us for years to come. I just wanted to be rid of it.”
However, complications arose 10 days after the surgery, causing painful swelling from leaking lymph nodes. Following months of hospital visits, a routine colonoscopy unexpectedly resolved the issue just before his 70th birthday. But as he began to recover, he contracted a life-threatening infection in South America, once again coming close to death.
Reflecting on that time, he remarked, "In a strange way, it felt like an answer to my prayers: if you want more time, you need to slow down and live differently." This realization led him to announce his retirement from touring, saying, "I want to be there for all of it," referring to spending more time with his sons.
In 2023, Sir Elton faced another health scare after a fall at his villa in Nice, France. He was briefly hospitalized but was discharged soon after.
We wish Sir Elton John a speedy recovery and continued health.
