76-Year-Old Grandmother Faces Harsh Criticism After Posting Sleeveless Dress Photo on Social Media

Everyone has an opinion, but sometimes we forget it's best to keep it to ourselves.

Recently, a 76-year-old style influencer shared a photo of herself modeling a sleeveless midi dress, and while the post garnered plenty of attention, not all of it was positive.

“It’s not the first time I’ve gotten these kinds of comments, but this one really caught me off guard,” Candace Cima told TODAY. “People hold such outdated ideas about what’s considered ‘age-appropriate’ fashion, and that needs to change.”

Cima, a grandmother of 11, proudly posed in a brown knit sleeveless dress, paired with a sweater.

While many praised her elegant style, some were quick to criticize. “From the side and back, this dress does nothing for you. Form-fitting below the waist is not your friend. Celebrate everything else about your body!” one person wrote on Facebook. Another commented, “The sweater’s fine, but I’m not a fan of the dress.” A harsher remark read, “Not flattering at all. Too old to be showing that much skin.”

In response to the negative comments, Cima remained unfazed. “It’s perfectly normal to have wrinkled skin at 76, and I’m not ashamed of it,” she said. “Sometimes I feel like asking, ‘Should I cover my face too, because I have wrinkles there?’”

Cima began her fashion blog in 2019 after noticing the lack of representation for older women in the fashion space. “I saw an opportunity to talk about how to dress as you age. Women have been taught to cover up because that’s what their mothers and grandmothers did.”

She emphasized the need for change, saying, “We need to rethink how we approach aging. We don’t have to follow these outdated rules in today’s world.”

Despite the rude comments, Cima brushed them aside and instead focused on encouraging her followers—especially the younger ones.

“Aging is a gift. Everything you’ve learned throughout your life is now available to you. You’re the wisest you’ve ever been. Embrace it and be proud.”
