Florida Man Forced to Secure His Entire Home; Here’s What Happened

As Hurricane Milton wreaks havoc in Florida, Orlando resident Pedro Casares took extraordinary measures to protect his home.

Officials have confirmed two fatalities from the storm, and Governor Ron DeSantis reported that 19 tornadoes have torn through the state as a result of the hurricane.

Major theme parks, including SeaWorld, Universal Orlando, and Walt Disney World, closed their doors on Wednesday, and they are expected to remain shut through Thursday for safety reasons.

In a unique move, Pedro secured his one-story home by tying six large yellow straps from the roof to the ground. A photo of his house went viral after Spectrum Bay News 9 shared it on X (formerly Twitter). The post sparked a mix of reactions—one user humorously called it “the most Florida thing ever,” while another commented, “People are laughing now, but this guy will be a hero when other houses float away, and he’s chilling in his living room.”

A third user praised Pedro’s ingenuity, saying, “He’s thinking outside the box. We need more people like him.”

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor urged residents to stay indoors as footage of the hurricane’s destruction circulated online. During a press conference, she emphasized the importance of caution, saying, “Please remain inside until we’ve assessed the damage and can confirm it’s safe to go outside or return to your neighborhoods.”

Castor also acknowledged that the area was fortunate to avoid the anticipated storm surge, which helped limit further damage.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned that the brief calm during the eye of the storm can be deceptive, as the winds and rain can resume just as fiercely, but from the opposite direction.

As the storm continues, the economic impact is beginning to surface. A report from Forbes estimates that Walt Disney World’s closure could cost Disney $150 million to $200 million this quarter, with many tourists still stranded at the resort. Goldman Sachs also predicts that tourism could decline by 6% due to the extreme weather.

Despite the challenging circumstances, people like Pedro are coming up with creative solutions to stay safe as Hurricane Milton rages on.
