In 2009, Nadya Suleman gained worldwide fame as the “Octomom” after giving birth to the world’s first surviving set of octuplets. Already a mother to six children, Nadya faced challenges raising her now 14 kids without a steady job, which led her to explore various avenues to support her family.
To make ends meet, Nadya turned to unconventional means, including posing for nude photos, briefly working in adult films, participating in celebrity boxing matches, and even attempting to trademark the nickname "Octomom." While her decisions were often met with public scrutiny, many came to appreciate her determination to provide for her large family.
By 2013, Nadya made the conscious choice to step away from the spotlight, heavily influenced by her oldest daughter, Amerah. In a 2016 interview with People magazine, Nadya explained that seeing Amerah, then 10 years old, emulate her behavior made her reevaluate her public persona. "When I saw my daughter copying me, I realized she might end up in trouble like I did. That’s when I decided I’d rather live in my van with all 14 kids than keep going the way we were. I didn’t want that life for my children," Nadya shared.
Fast forward to today, Nadya’s octuplets — Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jeremiah, Jonah, Josiah, and Makai — have just celebrated their 15th birthday. To commemorate the milestone, Nadya shared a throwback photo from their first birthday, a rare glimpse into her private life with the children.
Although she doesn’t frequently post pictures of her kids, Nadya has proudly shared moments in their lives, such as their first day of eighth grade. "Be proud of yourselves for being kind, respectful, and helpful at school," she wrote alongside the photo. She also praised them as role models for younger students. When her older children requested not to be photographed, she honored their wishes, reminding her critics to respect her children’s privacy as well.
Last year, Nadya marked her octuplets’ transition into their teenage years with a heartfelt Instagram post. She praised them as "some of the nicest, humblest, most thankful, and loving people I’ve ever seen," each with unique qualities that set them apart from their peers. She described them as "caring, kind, humble, loving, respectful, and devoted to God," emphasizing their compassionate nature and desire to help others. "You don’t follow the shallow ways of the world, but you follow God, who made you and loves you no matter what. I don’t know what I did to deserve such wonderful blessings. I love you," Nadya wrote, expressing her deep gratitude for her children.
