Trump Cuts White House Ceremony Short After Medical Emergency Involving Child
A swearing-in ceremony at the White House took an unexpected turn when a young girl collapsed during the event, prompting former President Donald Trump to abruptly end a press conference.
The ceremony marked the formal appointment of Dr. Mehmet Oz—a cardiothoracic surgeon and former television host—as the new Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in Trump’s administration.
According to The Irish Star, the incident occurred mid-briefing when the girl, a minor family member, fainted. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quickly took control of the situation, instructing the press to leave the room, saying, “Press out.”
President Trump paused his speech and stepped away from the podium, expressing concern: “I hope she’s OK.” Dr. Oz also rushed to provide assistance.
Footage from the event showed the girl being helped out of the room. A statement later released by the White House confirmed she had recovered:
"A MINOR FAMILY MEMBER FAINTED DURING DR. OZ’S SWEARING-IN CEREMONY IN THE OVAL OFFICE. WE ARE HAPPY TO SAY SHE IS OK."
Before the interruption, Trump praised Dr. Oz as “one of the nation’s most talented and beloved medical professionals.” He highlighted Oz’s impressive academic background, including degrees from Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Wharton School.

Dr. Oz’s medical career includes roles as a heart surgeon and professor at Columbia University, as well as director of the Cardiovascular Institute and the integrative medicine program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
He became a household name as host of The Dr. Oz Show, which aired from 2009 to 2022. The program, however, was often criticized for featuring questionable health advice—most notably his promotion of green coffee extract as a “magic weight-loss cure,” which drew sharp rebuke from the Federal Trade Commission.
Despite past controversies, Dr. Oz’s appointment to head CMS was confirmed by the Senate in a 53–45 vote earlier this month.
