Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly dismissed more than 20 Department of Justice (DOJ) employees tied to investigations involving former President Donald Trump and the January 6 Capitol riot, marking one of the most sweeping internal shake-ups in recent DOJ history.
🔍 DOJ Overhaul Targets Trump-Era Investigators
According to multiple outlets, including Axios, the dismissals are part of a wider restructuring led by Bondi and her newly created “Weaponization Working Group.” The task force was formed to identify DOJ officials allegedly involved in politically motivated actions during previous administrations.
Many of those dismissed reportedly worked under former Special Counsel Jack Smith, including attorneys, U.S. Marshals, and other staff connected to probes into Trump’s handling of classified documents and the Capitol riot.
Sources say the total number of dismissals linked to these investigations could reach as high as 35, with an additional 15 to 17 employees still under review. Most of the affected personnel served in DOJ offices across Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Florida.
“Some of these people were burrowed deep, and we’re finding them and making a determination,” a senior administration official told Axios.
🧠 Epstein Case Review Delayed the Firings
The wave of terminations was reportedly postponed due to ongoing internal debates surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case. Earlier this week, Bondi’s office reaffirmed the 2019 ruling that Epstein’s death was a suicide and denied the existence of any “client list.”
The announcement sparked backlash among some conservative figures who had anticipated more explosive findings. Tensions reportedly escalated between Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, a vocal proponent of Epstein-related conspiracy theories. CNN reported that Bongino was absent from work on Friday, prompting speculation about his possible resignation—though no official confirmation has been issued.
🚨 Bondi Asserts She’s Staying Put
Amid growing controversy, Bondi emphasized that she intends to remain in her role despite mounting political pressure.
“I have every intention to stay and serve,” she told Fox News.
Meanwhile, Bongino’s potential departure has become a trending topic online, with conservative commentator Eric Daugherty posting a viral message on X:
“Bondi MUST reconsider. BONGINO OVER BONDI.”
⚖️ DOJ Leadership Pushes Back on “Chaos” Claims
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has overseen much of the restructuring, rejected reports suggesting turmoil within the department. He described the firings as a “selective, not sweeping” effort to ensure DOJ alignment with the administration’s goals.
In a statement on X, Blanche wrote:
“The suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo’s composition and release is patently false.”
📢 What Comes Next
With Bondi still firmly in charge and additional internal reviews underway, the Justice Department’s transformation is expected to continue. Supporters frame the changes as a move to restore impartiality and accountability, while critics warn of growing politicization inside one of the nation’s most powerful institutions.
As the situation develops, all eyes remain on Bondi’s next moves—and whether more high-profile departures are yet to come.
