President Joe Biden has launched a fiery rebuke against Donald Trump after a new poll showed Americans hold a more favorable view of former President Barack Obama than of Trump.
The Marquette University survey, conducted between September 5 and 24 among 1,005 adults, found that 57% of Americans view Obama positively compared to just 42% for Trump. Meanwhile, 57% said they have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, giving him a net favorability of -15 points, while Obama enjoyed a net rating of +17.
Reacting to the results at a Nebraska Democratic Party gala in Omaha, Biden accused Trump of “taking a wrecking ball to American democracy.” He even referenced Trump’s controversial decision to demolish the White House’s East Wing to construct a new ballroom, saying, “I expected Trump to take a wrecking ball to the country — but I didn’t think he’d use a real one. It’s the perfect symbol of his presidency. He’s attacked not just the people’s house, but the Constitution, the rule of law, and our democracy itself.”
Biden went on to challenge Trump’s repeated claims that his administration had ushered in a “golden age” for America. “The only gold he knows is the kind he hangs on his mantle,” Biden said. “Mr. President, you work for all Americans — not just billionaires and millionaires. I’m angry because this country deserves better.”
The president also took a moment to share a deeply personal update about his health. In May, Biden disclosed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer — a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with bone metastasis. The White House confirmed the diagnosis followed worsening urinary symptoms.
Having recently completed radiation therapy, Biden expressed gratitude toward his medical team and advances in cancer treatment. “I thank God for the doctors, nurses, and incredible breakthroughs in cancer research,” he said, before slamming Trump and congressional Republicans for cutting healthcare funding and driving up costs for working families.
“Healthcare should never be a privilege,” Biden added. “It’s a right — and that’s something worth fighting for.”
