Bondi Hero Update: New Information Suggests His Injuries Are More Severe Than Initially Reported

The man celebrated around the world as the “Bondi hero,” Ahmed Al-Ahmed, has shared a new update from his hospital bed — and despite the gravity of his injuries, he says he would not hesitate to act again.

The 43-year-old father of two remains hospitalized after undergoing multiple surgeries for wounds sustained during the Bondi Beach attack, where he bravely confronted and disarmed an armed attacker.

Photographs taken during his recovery show a man clearly battered but unbroken. Yet according to his former lawyer, Sam Issa, the extent of Al-Ahmed’s injuries is far more serious than initially reported.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Issa revealed that Al-Ahmed suffered five gunshot wounds, with at least one believed to have caused nerve damage.

“He’s undergoing multiple surgeries,” Issa said. “At this stage, he has no feeling in his arm. The pain has taken a significant toll — but he has no regrets. He’s said he would do it again.”

While Al-Ahmed remains calm and resolute, those close to him acknowledge the physical struggle ahead. Recovery is expected to be long, and the full impact of his injuries is still being assessed.

Support From Around the World

Public response has been extraordinary. By Monday, more than $1.2 million had been raised through an international crowdfunding campaign, with U.S. billionaire Bill Ackman reportedly donating $99,000.

Footage of the incident quickly spread online, showing Al-Ahmed charging toward the gunman, grabbing him from behind, and forcing the weapon away — a split-second act many believe prevented further loss of life.

Authorities confirmed that the attacker, Sajid Akram, was fatally shot at the scene. His 24-year-old son, who was also armed, was taken to hospital under police guard.

Recovering, but Unwavering

Al-Ahmed is currently receiving treatment at St George Hospital, where doctors continue to closely monitor his condition. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, friends and supporters say his spirit remains strong.

He has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from Australia and across the globe — support that continues to grow as people rally behind a man many now see as more than a bystander.

For countless observers, Ahmed Al-Ahmed is an everyday person who, in a moment of unimaginable danger, chose courage — and in doing so, helped save lives.

Updates on his recovery and information on how to support him continue to circulate worldwide as his journey toward healing unfolds.
