Prince Harry Reportedly in Tears Following King Charles’ Shocking Announcement

At the start of last month, a notable moment unfolded within the British royal family, drawing renewed attention to long-standing tensions.

Prince Harry returned to London to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. During his visit, King Charles bestowed a significant new honor on Prince William—an announcement that many observers viewed as a pointed moment for Harry.

The Palace confirmed that King Charles III had appointed Prince William, the Prince of Wales, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. In its statement, the Palace noted that the role had previously been held by King Charles himself for 31 years during his time as Prince of Wales, and that the appointment followed military roles announced after his accession in August 2023.

According to royal commentator Tom Quinn, the news reportedly hit Prince Harry hard. Quinn claimed Harry was “in tears when he heard,” adding that the situation was made more painful because the role was given to Prince William—whom Harry has openly associated with many of his personal struggles.

Quinn further suggested that the timing of the announcement, made while Harry was briefly in the UK, was intentional. In his view, it reinforced the message that Harry is no longer fully welcome within the royal fold.

The appointment carries additional emotional weight given Harry’s personal military history. Prince William’s new role places him in charge of the very unit in which Harry once served. In 2008, Harry completed his Army Air Corps grading and pilot selection process, later training as an Army Air Corps pilot in 2009.

Harry’s official biography once noted that he was selected to train on the Apache Attack Helicopter and received his provisional wings from his father on the same day—an especially meaningful moment, as Charles was serving as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps at the time. That biography has since been removed from the royal family’s website.

The announcement came amid heightened public interest in the strained relationship between Prince Harry and his father. During his visit to the UK, Harry did not meet with King Charles due to what the Palace described as the king’s “full programme,” though Harry later said he hoped to see his father soon.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Harry spoke positively about being back in Britain. He described the anniversary event as “amazing” and praised the work of Scotty’s, highlighting the vital support it offers to children and families.

“The more opportunity you get to do these kinds of events, the more the families and kids know this place exists, which is really the most important thing,” Harry said, according to the BBC.
