Most households have at least one pair of nail clippers. We usually use them for trimming our nails or occasionally cutting bits of thread. But have you ever noticed the small round hole on some nail clippers? It turns out this tiny feature has a few clever uses! Many people overlook it, but once you learn what it can do, you might start using it often.
One practical purpose of the small hole is attaching a keychain. By looping a keyring through it, you can keep your nail clippers with your keys so they’re always easy to find (unless you lose your entire key set). Some clippers even come with a thin chain for this reason, though those chains can break easily—so attaching a sturdier keychain directly through the hole is often a better option.
The hole is also surprisingly useful for bending wire. Thread the wire through it, and you’ll have extra leverage, making it much easier to bend or even snap the wire without straining your fingers.
Another feature you may not realize is handy is the small metal piece surrounding the hole. While it’s designed to clean under your nails, it can double as a tiny screwdriver for small screws. If you’re ever without tools, this little metal tab can be enough to loosen a screw in a pinch.
And don’t forget the nail file! The sharp edge on it can slice through packing tape on boxes, making it a convenient tool for opening packages.
With these tips in mind, your nail clippers can be far more versatile than you ever expected—going well beyond basic nail trimming!
